Set during the revolution of 1921, this drama concerning "the Troubles" in Ireland retains its power today. Unfortunately, the picture goes astray in that the screenwriters solve all problems through the love of a British woman, Merle Oberon, for her Irish swain, Brian Aherne. Nonetheless,
the screen is charged with fiery passion, good chase sequences, fine melodrama, and touching dialog between the two lovers about the stupidity of killing in the name of political gain. Strong performances from everyone involved. Worth watching.
