In case you were wondering why Vera Ralston worked so much when she really didn't have that much talent, be advised that she worked only for Republic Pictures for many years and the man who owned Republic was Herbert Yates, her husband. In this western musical, Ralston displays her usual stuff as a lady gambler in early San Francisco. She joins forces with Carroll, a silver miner whom Chase attempts to ruin. It's a fairly standard plot and seems to serve only as a vehicle for Ralston and for the songs performed by Lawrence. It's a confused and often silly film but the Young score makes it somewhat worthwhile. leave a comment
