Complicated plot about a woman poisoner with a great Veidt role as a diabolical Egyptian. Veidt is positively Satanic as he pummels and pushes his victims, mostly women, about and, strangely enough, they appear to like it. Hardwicke is his usual majestic self but Ellis, as the American heroine, seems to be in a stupor, as if someone cruelly shoved her before the cameras and demanded she act for the first time. The sets and decor are impressive but the direction slows it all down to a painful crawl. leave a comment
