This up-and-down drama concerns Mastroianni and wife Cardinale, a beautiful young woman married to a man for about a year before discovering that he's impotent. Mastroianni has the reputation of being a worldly womanizer, and his boastful father, Brasseur, brags at the drop of a noodle about the sexual prowess of his father, himself, and his lothario son. It's a frustrating and embarrassing situation which is stupidly handled in a script that resolves the problem not through psychological treatment but by Cardinale's wealthy father, who, with the help of a Catholic bishop, has the marriage annulled and his daughter sent off into another marriage despite the fact that Cardinale loves Mastroianni. Even more puzzling is how this handsome devil stands by mutely and lets the woman of his life be taken from him. leave a comment
