Jory, a professional agitator, takes off for New York with struggling writer Ames. Jory gets into trouble with the law in the city; Ames falls in with an arty Greenwich Village crowd. Boles offers to help out Ames and her artist friends, determined to prove that it isn't poverty that is holding them back. Jory is unfaithful to Ames and she contemplates suicide.
