The screenplay by Bloom, another writer born and raised in Coney Island, fails to grip the emotions. Tully stars as a prison warden with Sidney as his crippled wife. Tully is kidnaped by convicts, and Gavin is forced to go along. The truck in which they're riding is ultimately wrecked, and the villains are killed; only Gavin and Tully survive. Then $100,000 is stolen by Tully, who lets Gavin go to jail for getting involved in a prison break in which an officer is killed. Gavin is remanded to the death house but escapes. The cops catch him and his life is saved when Tully confesses that Gavin had nothing to do with the break and was inadvertently dragged into it. Look for Beradino (former baseball player) and Peter Leeds, Jack Benny's favorite TV foil. (Remake of THE BIG GUY, 1939.) leave a comment
