BEE MOVIE
starstarstarstar
Cute, ingratiating, crawling with celebrity voice talent, and steeped in cowriter, coproducer and star Jerry Seinfeld's New York-centric observational shtick, this candy-colored animated fable is an awkward mix of corny bee puns, clever sight gags, kid-friendly action, adult-oriented workplace angst and Seinfeld's distinctive navel-gazing wit. And what's up with those four-legged bees? Newly minted bee-college graduates Barry B. Benson (Seinfeld) and his less adventurous b... read more leave a comment

American Gangster Shoots Down Box-office Record

American Gangster this weekend earned an estimated $46.3 million at the box office to become the best-opening R-rated crime drama in history. It also represents the best opening weekend for each of its stars, Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington. With $39.1 mil, Bee Movie placed second — largely due to Jerry Seinfeld's refusal to do any press.Rounding out the top five were Saw IV ($11 million), Dan in Real Life ($8.1 mil) and 30 Days of Night ($4 mil). read more

Seinfeld Buzzes About Bee Movie, Sitcoms and More

TV Guide caught up with Jerry Seinfeld in the middle of all the buzz about his latest release, Bee Movie, hitting theaters today. TV Guide: Are you psyched that your animated film, Bee Movie, is finally coming to a theater near us? Jerry Seinfeld: This was a big life experience for me — and it's been going on for four years. I didn't plan it that way. I thought I was just going to write it and give it to DreamWorks and they would make it. But then I got involved in how it got made, and it just went on down the wormhole.TV Guide: I don't think anyone expected that your next project would be an animated movie about bees….Seinfeld: The fact that it was something different really attracted me. All new toys, all new clay to play with, all new technology. It sort of woke me up read more

Jeers: To Bee or Not to Bee

Jeers to "N-Bee-C" for its incessant Bee Movie hype. I don't blame Jerry Seinfeld for wanting to promote his first big feature film, but did his former network need to devote so much airtime to his not-so-funny "TV Juniors" shorts? (I'm surprised they didn't get Jerry to host a special edition of The Singing Bee, too.) That said, I'm taking my kids to see Bee Movie on opening night, so I guess all the promos worked.Related: Seinfeld Buzzes About Bee Movie, Sitcoms and More. I can't begin to describe how ...

Question: I can't begin to describe how much I enjoyed the last hour-long episode (on Oct. 18) of The Office. It was dark and bleak and felt slightly surreal, and yet it was probably the most satisfying episode of this season. While it wasn't bust-a-gut hilarious, I truly enjoyed seeing the characters interact with each other in a more human way. I know some fans will disagree, so I wonder what your take on this darker Office was. Do you dislike when sitcoms dispense with the wacky high jinks or do you appreciate the more dramatic moments? Answer: You're not the only one who wrote in praising this episode, but I'm sorry to report that I was left cold. I found it almost as unbearable as all of those Seinfeld Bee Movie promos that are pollinating, or more to the point polluting, NBC's commercial breaks. Generally speaking, I'm OK when a quality comedy goes for pathos and scores dramatic points, and The Office certainly lends itself to that better than most shows and has achieved these ends ... read more
