Forrest is on his way to the seminary when he meets and falls for Baxter, a nightclub singer with a shady past. But since Forrest is about to take the final priestly vows, his concern for Baxter is humanitarian rather than sexual. She is a bad girl, having killed her married lover, and so represents a particularly dangerous temptation for the young priest. Will the pleasures of the flesh override the vows? It all takes place in France, and the Parisian backgrounds lend some interest to these standard proceedings. In the end, Forrest opts for the cloth and Baxter, in a rare moment of self-sacrifice, walks out to face the waiting guns of the killers who've been chasing her down for the aforementioned murder. It's a quasi-religious tale that never fully comes to grips with itself. There are hints of Sadie Thompson and the Reverend as well as overtones of Mary Magdalene in the characters. You won't recognize anyone but Anne and Steve. leave a comment
