BEAUTY ON PARADE is a precursor to Michael Ritchie's SMILE in that it, too, follows the inner workings of a beauty pageant. Warrick is the ex-beauty queen who left a chic life to take up the role of housewife. She has champed at the bit ever since and when her gorgeous daughter, Albright, qualifies for the Miss USA contest, Warrick becomes the ultimate stage mother and pushes her daughter to the brink. In doing so, Warrick just about ruins her own marriage and her daughter's romance with Hutton, a newspaperman. By feature's end, Warrick has realized the folly of her ways and returned to her doting husband, Ridgely. Hutton takes off with Albright, who relinquishs her queenly seat in favor of her adoration for Hutton. Lots of bare skin, bathing suits, and innocent fun. Good idea ruined by dull screenplay. leave a comment
