A sumptuous, nostalgic feast that draws shamelessly on the best traditions of screen animation and American musical theater and film. It's thoroughly derivative, but thoroughly charming. Question: Now that there's an Oscar category for best animated movie, could an animated movie be nominated for best picture, as Beauty and the Beast was in 1991?

Answer: Yes. According to an Academy spokesperson, the fact that there is a specific category designed to recognize achievement in animation does not preclude the nomination of an animated film in other categories, including best picture.
