This terribly expensive and incomprehensible Canadian-British production sports a plot that cannot be explained, as well as perhaps the most ludicrous Norwegian and German accents ever attempted (by Vanessa Redgrave and Richard Widmark, respectively). The film has something to do with a United Nations expedition on an obscure North Atlantic island. The UN group finds some old Nazi submarines filled with gold bullion. Shot in Canada and Alaska, this picture lost almost every penny of its $12 million budget. Redgrave plays the dullest character she's ever undertaken, and, except for a few good action scenes, most of the picture is as frozen as the tundra in which it is set. A good cast is absolutely wasted by the blurry script and dull direction in this ill-conceived picture. leave a comment
