This WW II action film follows the exploits of David Mcvey (James MacArthur), the son of a wealthy businessman, who arrives in the Philippines on December 8, 1941, after the Japanese have attacked Pearl Harbor and turned their attention to the Philippines. McVey hooks up with the hardened fighter Joe Trent (Van Heflin), who keeps a watchful eye over his inexperienced new friend. Trent, however, is less concerned than McVey with the Filipino people or their resistance movement--he rapes a young local woman; shoots a Filipino fighter; attempts to seduce Sisa (Rita Moreno), a guerrilla fighter; and plots to murder Careo (Leopoldo Salcedo), the leader of the resistance. As the savage Trent becomes increasingly brutish, McVey's allegiance to him is pushed to the breaking point. leave a comment
