Undistinguished war film about the battle that turned the tide in the Pacific Theater in WW II. Kandel (whose father is Aben Kandel, also a screenwriter) turned out the story and cowrote the screenplay with Ullman. Together they missed the whole point of the fracas. The film concentrates on
a submarine that recons the area before the battle. After that's done, the ship begin to return to port, but the crew members are captured and tossed into a Japanese prison where they are aided by Scala, as a Eurasian, who helps three officers flee the island on a torpedo boat. The men arrive home
