Baron Blood

Not one of Bava's better efforts, this film follows college students Cantafora and Sommer as they work to restore for the tourist trade an ancient castle once owned by the notorious sadist Baron Otto von Kleist. The couple holds a seance and wakes up the ghost of the evil baron (Cotten), who subsequently goes on a rampage, introducing his guests to the good old-fashioned torture chamber in the basement. Although it contains a few effective moments, Bava's typically impressive visuals (marred somewhat by the excessive use of zooms) fail to bring this material to life.
