The Bamboo Prison

THE BAMBOO PRISON is the Korean War version of STALAG 17, down to the traitor in the prisoners' midst and the apparent villain unjustly accused of betrayal. While nowhere as good as Billy Wilder's film, there is much of interest here, including many plot twists and a depiction of North Korean brainwashing techniques. Keye Luke (Number One Son in many CHARLIE CHAN movies) makes a fine interrogator, as does Richard Loo. Leo Gordon does well as Pike and E.G. Marshall plays a phony priest so well that you want to make him your confessor. (When asked what his initials stand for, Marshall said, "Everybody's Guess.")
