Writer Monash has done what many might have considered impossible: he took several interesting characters, added a test pilot background, and made it all come out dull. Monash, who later went on to produce TV's "Peyton Place," betrays his soap-opera leanings with a tiring story about Payne and the development of a special ejection seat for fighter planes.
