BAD MOON

Contrary to what the ads would have you believe, this isn't a werewolf picture. It's a boy-and-his-dog movie, and a pretty dippy one at that. We can hear the pitch now: It's WHITE FANG meets THE WOLF MAN -- great for the whole family! Wrong. Photographer Ted (Michael Pare), traveling in an exotic part of the world, is bitten by a werebeast. Tainted by the encounter but trying desperately to hang onto his humanity, Ted moves in with his sister Janet (Mariel Hemingway) and small nephew (Mason Gamble). Only the family's German shepherd, Thor, senses that something's amiss, and soon Ted's locked in a battle of wills with the preternaturally intelligent dog. Thor urinates on Ted's trailer; Ted urinates on Thor's doggie domicile. Thor bites Ted; Ted gets Thor sent to canine death row. Meanwhile, hikers, traveling con men and surveyers are being brutally murdered in the woods, their bodies mutilated as though by some savage beast, and Janet is slowly -- very slowly -- realizing that something's not right with her brother. Too gory for kids and too dull for gore hounds, this mongrel tries to serve two masters and winds up in the doghouse. leave a comment
