The Bad Lord Byron

1948, Movie, NR, 83 mins

Lord Byron is dying in Greece and dreams of a court of inquiry being held to determine whether he is entitled to go to heaven. One flashback after another, showing various parts of his life, all with an appalling sameness about them, make this picture seem much longer than it is. A lavish production is marred by an ill-conceived screenplay credited to five writers--so the adage about too many cooks also applies in movies. How such an exciting life could be transformed into such a static and dull exercise is almost beyond human ken. Yet the production values and the earnest acting by the ensemble (Zetterling and Greenwood were never more delicious) merit attention. leave a comment
