Taking a gilt-edged leaf from GOLDFINGER, Frobe, in a role similar to that of James Bond's avaricious foe, hires Belmondo to smuggle gold from one spot to another with his mistress, Seberg, who is really Frobe's secret accomplice. They begin driving from Beirut, told they will later be instructed where to pick up the gold, but on and on they go, experiencing one harrowing adventure after another in Damascus, Aleppo, Athens, Naples, then, finally, Bremen, Germany, but still have not been told were to pick up the gold. Of course it's been with them all along in the nifty little Triumph Frobe has provided, an almost solid gold sports car, a trick also used in GOLDFINGER. The drive is scenic and the action is exciting in this thriller, even though the story is an unabashed take-off on the Bond film. (In French; English subtitles.) leave a comment
