Romantic couch potatoes will wolf down this collection of true-love truisms like so many bon-bons. In the healthcare trenches of downtown Los Angeles, sympathetic physician, Syd Ludwick (Lisa Hartman Black), regularly works beyond her shift -- unlike her egocentric boyfriend, who treats his patients impersonally. No wonder Syd's colleagues nudge her to attend her high-school reunion in the small town of Bloomfield. For Syd, that trip down memory lane means reestablishing contact with her gadabout mother, Helen (Rue McClanahan), who has since transformed the family home into a bed-and-breakfast. The visit to also enables Syd to catch up with old pals like Nelson (Larry Manetti), who's still carrying a torch for her, and town divorcee/ sexpot Connie (Barbara Niven), who feigns affection for Syd but regards the big-city visitor as competition for Syd's former flame, Gus Martin (Dale Midkiff). Although Connie does everything but hang a private property sign on Gus, he begins making cow eyes at old high-school sweetheart Syd, and other old classmates like Minister Ed Jenkins approve of Syd rekindling the flame with the widowed Gus and his motherless son, Jake (Blake Woodruff). And Syd not only does Syd keep company with Gus, but also diagnoses and treats his sickly son. How can Connie possibly compete with a combination cover girl and miracle worker? Syd herself tries to reevaluate her harsh estimation of Helen while reconsidering her career goals. Does Syd's happiness lie with hunky Gus, his motherless child, and a rural practice in her hometown? What do you think?
