Hope stars as a famous writer of advice to the hopelessly lorn of love. He moves to a suburban California town to write a quick expose of the way women are. He needs the money because his business manager made a few mistakes and he's in hock for back taxes. The married ladies of the town take to him, which makes the married men mucho disgruntled. The only single woman in town, Turner, is his one and only love and all ends well. A predictable Hope comedy with some very good gags by writers Kanter and Davies. Arnold's direction is breezy and economical (what else would you expect from the director who gave us THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN?). You'll laugh out loud at least six times and smile perhaps six more. Jim Hutton (father of Tim Hutton) and Paula Prentiss (wife of Richard Benjamin) went on to do several more films together and were on their way to becoming the romantic couple until they made a couple of box office softies and the trend was over. Nice music from Mancini and Mack Davis. The title song was nominated for the Oscar. leave a comment
