The Baby Maker

In this very contemporary story, a young couple cannot have children, so they hire a young woman, Hershey, to bear the child for them. She holds up her end of the bargain, but it destroys her relationshop with her boy friend, Glenn, who is a member of the Love Generation but draws the line at what she's done. Father-to-be Groom and Hershey find they cannot make this just a business arrangement, and their relationship gets much deeper than either had wanted. In the end, Groom and wife Wilcox-Horne leave with the child. This was Bridges' first film as a director, and his writing made up for his shortcomings as a helmsman.
