This entertaining and wildly kinetic documentary — which takes its unprintable title from a producer's remark to 50 amateur videographers and enthusiastic Beastie Boys fans — may be the first concert film shot primarily by audience members. Inspired by a snippet of phone-cam footage posted to the Beastie Boys' website message board, the band recruited 50 ticket-holders to shoot a 2004 show at New York's Madison Square Garden with point-and-shoot Hi8 video cameras from their seats in the arena. When the 75 hours of amateur footage has been edited down and put in order, the producer promises, each of them will be able to point to the finished title and shout it out. If the thought of a 90-minute concert film composed almost entirely of hand-held footage captured by inexperienced operators sounds like your idea of hell, you're probably not a Beastie Boys fan. From their earliest home recordings as a slapdash hard-core act to their current website, which enables fans to download a cappella Beastie vocals and create their own remixes, this trio of unlikely New York City hip-hop pioneers has always represented the amateur, anyone-can-do-it aesthetic. In fact, that's one of the things that's kept them vital over a 25-year career and earned them a fiercely loyal following — a following that turned out in force for this concert. Backed by the astonishingly nimble-fingered DJ Mix Master Mike, the Beastie Boys are in top form and run through a variety of career-spanning material, from Licensed to Ill's "Time to Get Ill" to the (then) brand-new track, "Right Right Now Now" (sorry, folks, no "Cookie Puss"). There's also a cool halftime interlude during which the band, augmented by keyboard whiz Money Mark and percussionist Alfredo Ortiz and looking like the cheesiest bar mitzvah band on the planet, burn through a set of funk instrumentals pulled from their 1996 release The In Sound from Way Out!. Needless to say, anyone who's not entirely down with the beastly noise of the Beastie Boys will hate every second of it. This one's strictly for — and, for the most part, by — the fans. leave a comment --Ken Fox
