No sensibilities are spared in this brutal portrait of infantry warfare, featuring a powerful performance by Palance. In 1944 Belgium, Albert is a coward who has achieved the rank of captain only because of his father's political power. Because Marvin's political ambitions can be served by Albert's family, he overlooks Albert's imcompetence. But Palance and his platoon (Ebsen, Jaeckel, Strauss) feel victimized, particularly Palance who becomes an almost supernatural force of vengeance. A cynical and grim account of war, ATTACK! features excellent performances from the entire cast and is one of director Aldrich's best films. leave a comment
