A cynical and grim account of war, this is one of director Robert Aldrich's best films. In 1944 Belgium, Eddie Albert is a coward who has achieved the rank of captain only because of his father's political power. Because Lee Marvin's political ambitions can be served by Albert's family, he overlooks Albert's imcompetence.
