A harebrained thriller rolled off the Cannon assembly line, ASSASSINATION stars Jill Ireland (in her final film appearance) as the First Lady and Charles Bronson as Jay Killian, the Secret Service agent assigned to protect her. The new First Lady is an adventurer determined to live life to its fullest while Killian is a consummate professional who is determined to keep her out of trouble. After a few attempts are made on her life, the First Lady is finally convinced that she is in danger and eventually tells Killian the reason. Although it has an interesting, albeit implausible, premise, ASSASSINATION must battle a pathetic script, unexciting direction, and some less-than-inspired acting by both leads. Oddly, while Bronson and Ireland are married in real life, there is very little chemistry between them on screen. leave a comment
