Jack Benny is back in this pale sequel to the 1937 original (see above) as Buck Boswell, the head of a company of entertainers who are stranded and down-and-out in Paris. Resourceful chap that he is, Buck produces a song-and-dance-filled fashion show, numbering among its participants fellow Yanks James Harper (Charley Grapewin) and his daughter, Patricia (Joan Bennett), whom Buck thinks are penniless, but who, in reality, are loaded. When disaster looms for Buck and company, oil man Harper pulls out his fat wallet and saves the day. Unfortunately, a tedious script undermines Benny's best efforts and the relatively entertaining musical numbers, of which there are only four: "You're Broke, You Dope," by the Yacht Club Boys, "What Have You Got That Gets Me," "Do the Buckaroo," and the vocal ensemble number, "You're Lovely, Madame" (all by Ralph Rainer and Leo Robin). leave a comment
