Arthur

1981, Movie, PG, 117 mins

The happy prince and pauper union is a little harder to swallow nowadays than it would have been, say, in 1931, but no matter. This well-paced screwball comedy about a dissolute playboy (the late Dudley Moore) who would rather be drunk than face the reality of his great wealth and engagement to WASP witch Jill Eikenberry is imaginatively directed and polished to a bright sheen. Liza Minnelli is terrific as the poor working girl who steals his heart, and John Gielgud steals the whole show as Moore's kindly valet. Read the complete review for Arthur

Parents' Guide: What's New for Schoolkids?

Robert Edelstein, father of kids 11, 7 and 2 and frequent contributor to TV Guide on the subject of kids' TV, recently exchanged some observations about the new fall season with Tv Guide's family editor, Michael Davis. They screened previews of some new and returning shows for schoolkids, including one from André Benjamin of OutKast. Michael Davis: I love the idea that André Benjamin from OutKast has created a series for Cartoon Network, entitled Class of 3000 (November, Cartoon Network). You liked it, right? Robert Edelstein: Absolutely — though, to be fair, I've only seen one two-minute preview reel. Wow, Anna's a little less predictable...

Wow, Anna's a little less predictable than I thought. I did guess that of the made-over Joes, she'd pick Nathan to come along to Tahiti. His letter last week was a smooth move, and not too schmaltzy except for that bit about her eyes. It took only two days for the team to give Nathan new teeth, a new wardrobe, a shave and a haircut, all of which boosted his confidence enough to make him worthy of some camera time. Honestly, I had to go online to watch his interview clip just to find out anything about his personality. It was pretty hard for me to pay any attention to the dates this week, 'cause I was so distracted by the amazing scenery of Tahiti. Judging by those awkward silences, Rocky must have felt the same way. When he did speak, even Anna noted that his words were straight out of a soap opera. She didn't care too much — man candy! Josh Nachlas, sorry, sweetie, but I could see exactly how you lost the girl. Forget about abstinence until marriage; mos read more
