Idealistic doctor Ronald Colman is obsessed with finding a cure for bubonic plague and wrestling with his moral conscience in this uneven Sidney Howard adaptation of Sinclair Lewis's novel. Hayes gets the big death scene, Loy gets the sexy seduction bits, John Ford gets the blame. Immensely popular with audiences and listed as one of the year's best films by The New York Times, ARROWSMITH was nominated as Best Picture but thankfully lost out to GRAND HOTEL. leave a comment
