George Bernard Shaw's satiric, anti-militaristic play receives a fairly good presentation as Fischer, the cowardly soldier, hides in Pulver's bedroom, while her fiance, Hendriks, blindly attacks the Serbian army on behalf of Bulgaria. The witty dialog and attacks on rabid nationalism are
intact and the production is much superior to the 1932 British version. Nominated for a Best Foriegn Film Oscar by the Motion Picture Academy of America.
