Dix is marshal of Silver City who takes on Calhern and his motley band of outlaws. The odds are impossible so reformed bandit Foster gives Dix a helping hand to subdue the bad guys while beautiful Grahame wins the lantern-jawed lawman's heart. The action is well-paced and believable under
veteran director Vidor's hand and Nichols' script is tight and sensitive (he would write the classic STAGECOACH six years later). Above average film remade as THE MARSHAL OF MESA CITY with George O'Brien in 1939.
