This fun, fluffy espionage caper has American hieroglyphics professor Gregory Peck deciphering a secret message — the meaning of which is wanted by spies, oil sheiks and Middle Eastern leaders — aided by the sensuous mistress of a politically ambitious oil tycoon (Sophia Loren). Director Stanley Donen basically remade Charade, rightly assuming that its success deserved another attempt. Loren's glamorous wardrobe included some 50 pairs of shoes — a huge costuming expense explained away by her lover's shoe fetish. Read the complete review for Arabesque
