The US State Department mistakenly sends chorus girl Dynamite Jackson (Doris Day) an invitation to a Parisian Arts Festival. Realizing their error too late, they try to rescind the invitation, but when she threatens to make a public stink about the affair, they relent. On board the ocean liner bound for France, Dynamite falls for the timid S. Winthrop Putnam (Ray Bolger), even though he has already been married to another woman (Eve Miller) in a shipboard ceremony. Things start happening musically once the principals arrive in Paris, where they learn that the wedding was a sham, leading to Winthrop and Dynamite's eventual happiness. Laden with mostly forgettable songs and ordinary dancing, APRIL IN PARIS is saved by the fine performances of Day and Bolger and the uproariously funny title number, performed in the streets as rain and wind disrupt the romantic proceedings. leave a comment
