Annie Oakley

Barbara Stanwyck stars in this lively historical fare as the rugged Ozark sharpshooter Annie Oakley. Stanwyck is particularly fine in the opening scenes in which Annie is discovered to be an awkward, thoroughly uncultured and untutored backwoodsian. She joins Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show and becomes its star marksperson, vying for attention and falling in love with sharpshooter Toby Walker (Preston Foster). The show's manager, played by Melvyn Douglas, is himself hopelessly in love with Annie, but doesn't stand a chance as she goes tenaciously after Walker, getting help from Chief Thundercloud as Sitting Bull.
