ANGELS AND INSECTS
starstarstarstar
England, 1858: Impoverished entymologist Mark Rylance thinks he's in clover when he marries pampered, haughty beauty Patsy Kensit, but her aristocratic family harbors dirty secrets and brutal disillusionment. ANGELS & INSECTS is a dark, brainy pleasure, and if its castigation of the aristocracy -- perverted leeches all -- is somewhat conventional, its systematic use of insect imagery is something new. Even the costumes reflect the theme: Kensit is arrayed like a splendid butterfly, while family governess Kristin Scott-Thomas is dressed like a drab little worker ant; the busy children sport black-and-yellow dresses that make them look like wee bees.
