Powerful story set against the backdrop of the Northern Irish "troubles," in which a saxophone player (Stephen Rea) witnesses the murders of his manager and a deaf-mute girl. He becomes obsessed with finding the killers and getting revenge, transforming himself into a killer in the
process. Rea gives a perfectly modulated performance, and Neil Jordan (MONA LISA, HIGH SPIRITS) is magnificent in his directorial debut. This is a powerful film, noted for its black humor, atmospheric locations, and calculated touches of surrealism.
