Zany comedy-musical offers four struggling singing sisters led by Lamour and the always frenetic Hutton, who does a scat number with such energy that she appears manic, a jiggling, wiggling flailing body and a pair of lungs that would deafen a crowd in the Roman Colosseum. Lamour and MacMurray, he being a sax player and protector of the female vocal group, are in love. Hutton is in love with MacMurray but he does not reciprocate which makes for the old love triangle plus hot sparks from sibling rivalry. MacMurray spends a great deal of time running between Lamour and Hutton, so careful not to offend either that he becomes a nervous wreck. The Angel Sisters' act is destitute at one point so MacMurray and sidekick Eddie Foy, Jr., get jobs as singing waiters in a Polish restaurant; both do a knockout, funny number dressed in exaggerated Tyrolean costumes, slapping the blazes out of themselves. Lamour sings "It Could Happen to You," and the sister act does "Hello, Mary, How Does Your Garden Grow?" a nifty war propaganda tune built around a Victory Garden motif. Oddly, no one renders the song from which the title of this film is taken. Though a bit on the goofy side, this well-produced pic offers up many a laugh and pleasing song. leave a comment
