Amicus, known for its string of omnibus horrors such as ASYLUM and TALES FROM THE CRYPT, broke with that tradition for this old-fashioned gothic chiller involving a curse on a young newlywed, Beacham, who has just moved into the ancestral mansion of her husband, Ogilvy. It seems that a few generations ago Ogilvy's relative, Lom, raped a virgin servant girl, and now a disembodied hand takes its revenge on all the heirs to the estate. This standard old dark house story hasn't much to recommend it; however, the dullness of the central characters is offset somewhat by the typically solid contributions of Cushing, Lom, and Magee. Stunning art direction and excellent camerawork also give the proceedings a lift. leave a comment
