Pretentious film that famed director Joseph von Sternberg made in Japan. Self-consciously arty, the plot chronicles a woman marooned on a small island that is inhabited by thirty lecherous men. The metaphorical meaning of the material is put forth by calling the woman "The Queen Bee" and
the men "drones." Poor performances, laughable material, and a bizarre cultural combination (native German von Sternberg spending a record-breaking amount of money to produce a Japanese film) almost push this effort into farce. A miserable failure.
