A haunting film, AMERICANA concerns a Vietnam War veteran (David Carradine) who drifts into a small Kansas town and becomes obsessed with fixing a broken-down merry-go-round that was once the pride of the community. The townsfolk distrust the stranger and resist his efforts to bring new
life into their existence. This beautiful allegorical treatment of America's attitude toward its Vietnam veterans and the slow healing process after the war was a labor of love for Carradine, who coproduced and directed. A great example of creative low-budget filmmaking.
