American Pop

This poorly detailed animated feature attempts to chronicle popular American music from the turn of the century to rock'n'roll, but it lacks a clear point of view or character development. Ralph Bakshi's self-indulgent effort maintains that all earlier musical forms led up to the dominance of today's rock music, which, of course, is questionable at best. Low production values, an artless script, and an unconvincing view of history don't add up to much in the way of entertainment.
