Karate champ David Bradley takes over for series star Michael Dudikoff in this third installment in the "American Ninja" series. After journeying to Japan as a boy to become a ninja fighting machine so that he can avenge the murder of his father, Sean (Bradley) travels to the Caribbean to compete in an international karate championship. The event is actually part of a scheme by Cobra (Marjoe Gortner) and Andreas (Yehuda Efroni) to find toughest man in the world so they can test their new lab-produced disease on him. Needless to say, Sean is their man, and before fists and feet have stopped flying, he also becomes their prisoner, with his buddies, Curtis (Steve James) and Dexter (Evan J. Klisser), left the task of liberating him. AMERICAN NINJA 3 is a comic-book of a movie that goes too far to be a satisfying adventure and not far enough to be an entertaining parody. Bradley is too stone-faced to have fun with material that begs to be treated tongue-in-cheek, and Klisser is so cartoonlike that it's surprising to see him bleed when he dies. Only James, a holdover from the first two films in the series, and Marjoe Gortner seem well-suited for their roles. leave a comment
