See America Thirst

1930, Movie, NR, 71 mins

Silent comedian Harry Langdon's first feature length talkie (he had done several sound shorts), which heralded his quick fade from a motion picture comedian considered on a par with Keaton and Chaplin to minor roles opposite the likes of Slim Summerville. Langdon and Summerville play two wandering buddies who are mistaken by gangsters for two brutal gunmen and are drafted by the crooks to help in their fight against a rival gang. The film wallows in dated, badly staged slapstick and Langdon, who had made a career of playing impish, shy characters, is nearly inaudible as he mumbles and whispers his dialog.
