This lightweight farce offers De Sica as a skipper of a fruit and vegetable boat plying its commerce between Leghorn and Genoa during WW II. Trouble arises due to a crew of inexperienced landlubbers--able seamen are serving on more important vessels. Folco Lulli is amusing as the surly
second-in-command, looking out for his absentminded captain, who sees intrigue and destruction over every wave. It is apparent that Italy's top director took on such pedestrian chores to glean enough capital to finance his considerably more artistic efforts. (In Italian; English subtitles.)
