In 1959 teenager Makepeace travels from the mainland to Hawaii with his parents for a vacation. In a series of vignettes he meets five other teenage boys, and the episodic film follows the youngsters as they learn about surfing, drinking, prostitutes, prejudice, and true friendship. As a coming-of-age picture, ALOHA SUMMER doesn't do much to enliven the subgenre, but the young actors create a nice rapport and have enough appeal to make the movie enjoyable.
