Snakes on a Plane: Hit or Missssss?

In theaters Friday and not being screened in advance for critics — or even cast members, who will see it for the first time at a Thursday-night premiere — Snakes on a Plane, starring Samuel L. Jackson as an FBI agent escorting a mob snitch who gets targeted for a clever in-flight "assaspination" via the release of 400 poisonous slitherers, has been the subject of many questions. Such as: Is that really the title? If so, who on God's green earth approved it? Is Snakes on a Plane actually about snakes on a plane? And: Can a movie about snakes on a plane that's titled Snakes on a Plane be any good? Reporters greeting Jackson at the Snakes press junket (read more

Give me something on ...

Question: Give me something on Battlestar Galactica to hold me over until October.

Answer: I'll do better than that. I'll run my entire interview with exec producer David Eick sometime in the next week. I'm pleased to report that he answered almost all of your questions. In the meantime here's a little something to whet your appetite: "A very central character will no longer be with us by the end of the third episode," reveals Eick. "At the end of the day this is a war show, and there are casualties. And we can't just see extras getting killed. Sometimes it's got to hit us where we live."

Malcolm's Reese Woos a Golden Girl

Olympic gold-medalist Tara Lipinski expands her TV repertoire even further when she throws Malcolm's brother Reese for a (toe) loop on this weekend's Malcolm in the Middle (Sundays at 7 pm/ET). TVGuide.com talked to the 24-year-old cutie about her latest small-screen venture, the racy film role she bailed on and how she almost went Skating with Celebrities. TVGuide.com: Tell me about your Malcolm in the Middle role. Who are you playing, what's she about...?Tara Lipinski: I play Carrie, who's this quirky and earthy antifur, antimeat vegetarian type. It was a really fun to play her, so different than anything I've done before. On the show, I think Reese (Justin Berfield) is all abou read more

American Idol "Find out... after...

American Idol "Find out... after the break." Haven't heard those smug little words from Ryan Seacrest in a while, but the first live results show of American Idol 5 brought out that tried-and-true phrase, as well as some Paula Abdul tears, if only in a glistening eye this time. Just wait: When/if Ace gets the boot, Paula's rush of tears will wash Seacrest right off the stage. Hmmm... I really enjoyed the vision in my head just now. All in all, not very surprising, with the exception of Becky (I guess Maxim readers were just too, um, busy to vote). Simon Cowell's backhanded compliment was actually great career advice for Becky; the girl is beautiful, and the camera loves her almost as much as Simon loves himself. Th read more

American Idol As contestants...

American Idol As contestants faced the dreaded "chair" and were whittled down to 24, Ryan Seacrest reminded us that "American Idol is the quickest route to stardom." Clearly he hasn't spoken to Justin Guarini lately. Several people I don't remember were cut quickly, and then Katharine McPhee got so excited about making it through that she kissed all three judges… on the lips! Eugenia's hysterics about her life being over at age 26 shocked the judges — because if life ended at 26, that would make them, well, dead. With her fantastic voice, it was obvious that Mandisa would make it through, but I loved her getting an actual apology out of Simon Cowell and making him feel "1 millimeter tall." Good for her, now she can make fun read more
