Eclectic entry from Bogart's Warner Bros. catalog which blends the parody, comedy, espionage, and gangster genres as Bogie pursues three unforgettable spies: Veidt, Anderson, and Lorre. Often-underrated director Vincent Sherman demonstrates a fine feel for the ambience of 1940s New York, with plenty of machine-gun dialogue to spice up the proceedings. Also enjoyable are the Johnny Mercer title track and songs including Arthur Schwartz and Johnny Mercer's "All Through the Night" and Lillian Goodman's "Cherie, I Love You So." leave a comment
