An intellectual approach to the Lewis Carroll classic aims for satire and an adult view of Alice's adventures, in contrast to the full-tilt juvenile approach taken by Disney. Here, live action and puppets recount the oft-told tale of how Alice follows the White Rabbit down the hole and
into Wonderland's assorted fantasies, grim and delightful. American Bunin was invited to produce this lofty film by the French government (which financed it). Ironically, the very equipment used for stop-motion animation and color was that formerly used by Nazi propagandists when occupying Paris
during WW II and that was later captured by the French.
