Jack Hulbert doubles for Fleming, who is sick in the hospital, and takes on a tough case, apprehending a gang of vicious jewel thieves. He actually lays siege to their lair, shooting it out with the entire mob and capturing all except the leader, a maniac played superbly by Richardson. In
a thriller finale, Richardson locks himself into the motorman's cab of a subway train on which Hulbert and Wray are riding and drives it at full throttle toward destruction, providing enough tension to make up for earlier lagging scenes.
