Charles Boyer never actually utters the line, "Come wiz me to the Casbah," but John Cromwell's remake of Pepe Le Moko, co-written by James M. Cain and beautifully shot by James Wong Howe, is still one of the most alluring love stories ever made. Boyer plays Pepe, the notorious thief and lover who, wanted by the police, can never leave the Algiers casbah. Hedy Lamarr is the dame for whom Pepe understandably risks everything.
